Understanding

To understand and yield to the sovereignty of our Creator is a freeing thing as it can often take the “why” question away and replace it with a trust that His desire for us is far better than any control we can have over ourselves.  While we cannot discount that some things occur in our lives as a result of reaping and sowing, yet, even that He can turn around when it’s realized and repented of.  I say all of this because we may not realize it at the time, but our circumstances that seem bleak at the moment is often a set up for a much bigger plan taking place in the unseen realm.

Paul was in Rome and became imprisoned for preaching the gospel that Yeshua is the Messiah and Redeemer for the world…THE One prophesied to come.  Because of being in jail Paul was unable to go to the congregation in Colossae and minister to them about staying pure in a very pagan culture. However, he would be able to send this same message through a letter.  Are you beginning to see how sovereign this actually was?  Had Paul been able to physically go to any of the congregations that he wrote letters to, it would have been words in their ears only for that time, but because he had to write letters it became truth for MANY others, for MANY generations.  As one example below, for the people of Colossae, he had NO idea that an imprisonment in Rome, which caused him to have to write a letter to the people of Elohim, would become part of the canon of Scripture by the will of YHVH to be passed down for generations.  With that in mind, may our hearts and minds be open to receive the words that were written for our instruction too.

Colossians 1:1-8 says,

1  Paul, an apostle of Yeshua Messiah  by the will of Elohim, and Timothy our brother,
2 To the  saints and faithful brethren in Messiah who are at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from YHVH our Father.
3  We give thanks to Elohim, the Father of our Master Yeshua Messiah, praying always for you,

4  since we heard of your faith in Messiah Yeshua and the love which you have for all the saints;

5 because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel

6 which has come to you, just as  in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasingeven as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of Elohim in truth;

7 just as you learned it from Epaphras, our beloved fellow bond-servant, who is a faithful servant of Messiah on our behalf,

8 and he also informed us of your love in the Spirit.

 Paul is giving thanks for them, commending them and encouraging them that they were given the Spirit of Understanding to understand the truth that Yeshua is the Messiah and a life surrendered to Him must bear fruit in keeping with repentance.  It is so important to remain faithful to the truth, even through the difficulty of living in a pagan society.

Once again we have another pattern in these eight short verses of a body working and being joined together:

  1. Paul and Timothy together
  2. Writing to saints and faithful brethren
  3. Love you have for all the saints
  4. Truth came to all the world
  5. Epaphras taking good reports back to Paul

May the eyes of our understanding continue to have the scales removed so that we can clearly see with the Spirit of Understanding what the Scriptures are teaching us in order that we may honor Elohim in every part of our thoughts and choices.

Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
