Counsel

A very common verse to us is found in 2 Timothy 4:2 where Paul is counseling Timothy the pastor saying, “preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction[counsel]”  In Acts 8 we see an example of Philip going about his business of preaching the gospel when divine counsel came to him through an angel. He obeyed; and as a result of him consulting the truth to an Ethiopian who needed understanding of what he was reading, another soul was brought into the family of Elohim and was baptized.  As we read today, may our hearts and eyes see the patterns that make this applicable to our lives.

Acts 8:25-35 says,

25 So, when they had solemnly testified and spoken the word of YHVH, they started back to Jerusalem, and were preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.

26 But an angel of YHVH spoke to Philip saying [He counseled him], “Get up and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (This is a desert road.)

27 So he got up and went [heeded counsel]; and there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem to worship,

28 and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.

29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this chariot.” [As Philip obeyed, the Spirit continued to counsel him for the next step.]

30 Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”

31 And he said, “Well, how could I, unless someone guides me? [counsels me]” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

32 Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: “HE was led as A sheep to slaughter; and as A lamb before its shearer is silent, SO HE does not open His mouth.

33 “IN humiliation His judgment was taken away; who will relate His generation? For His life is removed from the earth.”

34 The eunuch answered Philip and said, “Please tell me [counsel me], of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?”

35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Yeshua to him. [Remember, the only Scripture they had at this time was what is commonly called today as the “Old Testament”.  It is the foundation and truth that they lived by when we read the

Apostolic Scriptures (New Testament). This is vital to understand in order to have an accurate view of what they lived by.  Keep in mind that preaching is a type of counseling when received and acted upon. ]

In this next verse Yeshua has resurrected and comes upon two men on the road to Emmaus who were talking about Him and they did not recognize Him and it says in Luke 24:27 of Yeshua,

Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures[We, too, would do well to be able to give the salvation message beginning with Moses and all the prophets as it is part of the proof that He is the Messiah.]

May we take away from the patterns given today, that we develop our sensitivity to the Spirit of Counsel so that we will be instant in season and out of season when called upon in a “divine interruption” as it could be the deliverance, salvation or healing of another soul!!!

Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
