Counsel

As we often come back to, the natural realm reveals the truths of the spiritual realm.  Below we will read verses about the “commandment of your father” and the “teaching of your mother”.  While this is absolutely applicable and necessary in the nuclear family, there is a deeper understanding of what this actually demonstrates on the earth.  This topic is beautiful and could be taught for days showing the patterns and parallels in Scripture.  But for the scope of the deLIGHT, we will touch on this concept to give us some counsel from the Word and then, as we read our Bible let’s begin to pay attention for this pattern to jump out at us.

With that, let’s ask the question, “What do physical fathers and mothers represent in the kingdom?”  The Father represents YHVH, the lawgiver and the mother represents the Holy Spirit who teaches the law.  Yeshua, the Son of Elohim, represented YHVH on the earth and how obedient children are to respond to the commandments of the Father.  The words in Hebrew for Holy Spirit is Ruach HaKodesh.  The word Ruach [Spirit] is a feminine noun, thus the reason it is believed that the woman taken from Adam is representing the Holy Spirit.  Remember, it is the Holy Spirit, the center shaft of the menorah, that fuels the rest of the branches.  We can’t have wise counsel without first having the Holy Spirit.  So, what does the Bible say one of the functions of the Holy Spirit is? In John 14:26 Yeshua says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spiritwhom the Father will send in My nameHe will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” Nehemiah 9:20a says, “You gave Your good Spirit to instruct [counselthem…”  Therefore when we read verses about the “teaching of the mother” we can have a better understanding that we have an awesome responsibility to accurately counsel the commandments of the father because we are to function in the same capacity as the Holy Spirit.  To say it another way, we are to pass on exactly what the Word teaches because that’s what the Spirit does.  If we live or teach anything otherwise, we are misrepresenting this heavenly truth.  With this view in mind let’s read the verses below and allow them to transform our hearts and our homes.

Proverbs 6:20-23 says,  “20 My son, observe the commandment of your father and do not forsake the teaching of your mother; 21 Bind them continually on your hearttie them around your neck. 22 When you walk about, they will guide [Counselyou; when you sleep, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk to you. 23 For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; and reproofs for discipline are the way of life”

Proverbs 1:8-13 says, “8 Hear, my son, your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching; 9 Indeed, they are a graceful wreath to your head and ornaments about your neck.  [In the ancient near eastern culture it was a very common practice to have visible items serving as constant reminders and identifiers.  It’s the same for us today with wedding rings, tzit tzit, etc…] 10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. 11 If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us ambush the innocent without cause; 12 Let us swallow them alive like Sheol, even whole, as those who go down to the pit; 13 We will find all kinds of precious wealth, we will fill our houses with spoil; 14 Throw in your lot with us, we shall all have one purse,” 15. My son, do not walk in the way with them. Keep your feet from their path, 16. For their feet run to evil and they hasten to shed blood.” This pattern can be carried out, not only physically but spiritually.  We can make choices to chase after money and prestige at the expense of our children and our Yah given responsibilities. Solomon is giving clear counsel here that we are not to allow enticement to govern our decisions.  Our thought process that we take our counsel through should first begin with prayer; next, how does this affect my ability to counsel, teach and train my children…first and foremost spiritually and then physically? The tests will come to run after things in the natural, but we can pass those tests if we bind the truth in our hearts CONTINUALLY so that we do not get lured into the serpent’s lie and deceive ourselves.

Proverbs 3:1-4 says, “1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; 2 For length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. 3 Do not let kindness and truth leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 So you will find favor and good repute in the sight of Elohim and man.”

The only way we can have the beautiful promises given above is to do just what it says: observe the commandments, do not forsake the teaching, bind them on our hearts, tie them around our neck, keep our feet from the path of allurement.  The Spirit of Counsel is there for every believer to light up the way in which we should go. May we not blow out the light of truth by pursuing our own selfish desires.

Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
