Counsel

The book of Titus is a power packed little book that comes with much counsel for the body of Messiah.  Paul is writing a letter to Titus, who he left in Crete, to instruct and set up elders in every city as he directed him.  As we read this book one can readily see the Spirit of Counsel throughout all three chapters.  I highly recommend reading through all of Titus, but today we will look at chapter two.  May we receive the instructions as fresh as they were the day they were given to Titus to teach.

Titus 2:1-15 says,

1  But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine.

2  Older men are to be temperatedignifiedsensiblesound in faithin lovein perseverance.
3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behaviornot malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wineteaching
[counseling] what is good,

4 so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,

to be sensiblepureworkers at homekind, being subject to their own husbandsso that the word of Elohim will not be dishonored.
6 Likewise urge the young men to be sensible;

in all things show yourself to be an example of good deedswith purity in doctrinedignified,

sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.
9 Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everythingto be well-pleasing, not argumentative,

10 not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of Elohim our Savior in every respect.
11 For the grace of Elohim has appeared,  bringing salvation to all men,

12  instructing [counseling] us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensiblyrighteously and godly in the present age,

13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of  our great Elohim and Savior, Messiah Yeshua,

14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed [not from lawful commandments], and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
15 These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.

Older Men are to be:

  1. Temperate
  2. Dignified
  3. Sensible
  4. Sound in faith
  5. Sound in love
  6. Sound in perseverance

Older Women and Younger Women are to be:

  1. Reverent in their behavior
  2. Not malicious gossips
  3. Not given to much wine
  4. Teaching what is good
  5. Encouraging young women to love their husbands and children
  6. To be sensible
  7. Pure
  8. Workers at home
  9. Kind
  10. Submissive to their own husbands so that the word of Elohim will not be dishonored

Young Men are to be:

  1. Sensible
  2. Be an example of good deeds
  3. Purity with doctrine
  4. Dignified
  5. Sound in speech which is beyond reproach so nothing bad can be said about us

Bondslaves are to be:

  1. Subject to their own masters in everything
  2. Be well pleasing
  3. Not argumentative
  4. Not pilfering
  5. Show good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of Elohim our Savior in every respect.

Every word of the counsel that Paul gave to Titus in the chapter above is not only given to him to pass on to the Crete’s and others, but it is given for us to heed as well.  May we allow the Spirit of Counsel to help us put this into practice and counsel others to do so.

Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
