Understanding

Today we’re going to go back into the book of Daniel. Daniel was taken captive to Babylon when Nebuchadnezzar captured Jerusalem. It was believed that Daniel was about fifteen years old when this happened.  His prophetic ministry began and ended in Babylon.  He served under four kings during this seventy year stretch: Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, Darius the Mede and Cyrus the Persian.  He had five visions (Daniel 2, 7, 8, 9, 10-12).  We’re going to look at Daniel’s response when he had a vision in Daniel 8.

Daniel 8:15-17; “15 When I, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought to understand it; and behold, standing before me was one who looked like a man. 16 And I heard the voice of a man between the banks of Ulai, and he called out and said, “Gabriel [This is the first mention of an angel’s name in Scripture]give this man an understanding of the vision.” 17 So he came near to where I was standing, and when he came I was frightened and fell on my face; but he said to me, “Son of man, understand that the vision pertains to the time of the end.”

Daniel’s response was always to seek to understand that which was being revealed to him.  Because his heart was not to look to himself, but to seek for the correct understanding of the visions he was given, Elohim sent Daniel the angel Gabriel to give him the understanding of what he was shown.

Daniel 8:26-27 says, “26 “The vision of the evenings and mornings which has been told is true; but keep the vision secret, for it pertains to many days in the future.” 27 Then I, Daniel, was exhausted and sick for days. Then I got up again and carried on the king’s business; but I was astounded at the vision, and there was none to make me understand.” Though Daniel was sent an angel to explain things to him (verses 19-25), there were still things that were unclear to him such as, “when will all of these things happen”. There will always be the element of trust and faith concerning the unknowns in every situation that we face; but as we continue to walk through it, the Spirit of Understanding will continue to allow us to see and understand what it all means.  Sometimes though, the understanding is that we don’t have to understand it all.

As we continue to journey through the Seven Spirits of YHVH may we always be mindful to seek Him for understanding in all things and trust that what we are to understand He will show us; and yet be content to walk in complete trust when it’s not yet time for it to be revealed.

Shalom & Blessings,

Tammy
