9th May 2020: Our Daily deLIGHT~7th Day-Fear of YHVH
Fear of YHVH
This week I want to spring board from a verse we read last Shabbat from Psalm 2:11, 11. Worship YHVH with reverence [Yirah/Fear of YHVH] and rejoice [Giyl/to dance or spin as one with violent emotion, joy] with trembling [causing the earth to quake with your joyfulness].
One of my “favorite” set of verses (I know, I have MANY of those!!) that I often quote is from Zephaniah 3:14-17. It says, “14 Shout for joy, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! 15 YHVH has taken away His judgments against you, He has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, YHVH, is in your midst; you will fear disaster no more. 16 In that day it will be said to Jerusalem: “Do not be afraid, O Zion; Do not let your hands fall limp. 17 “YHVH your Elohim is in your midst, a victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.”
The one who worships YHVH with reverence…with the proper Fear of YHVH, will be the one that experiences the reality of Zephaniah 3. In our English Bible when we read the last phrase of verse 17 we don’t get the full meaning or truth of what is says.
He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy, The word rejoice in this verse is the same word used in Psalm 2:11. It is the Hebrew word Giyl meaning to dance or spin as one with violent emotion, joy. So if we read it with its Hebrew meaning, what it’s really saying is, “He [Our Redeemer] will dance as One with violent emotion and joy!!”
May we have reverence [Fear of YHVH] and rejoice now, so that in the days to come Yeshua will MORE than do this over us!!
May we have a joyful Shabbat!!
