29th June 2020: Our Daily deLIGHT~2nd Day-Understanding
Sometimes we can take for granted our understanding of how some areas of the Kingdom of YHVH are to operate while on this earth. The verses below shed light on our relationship with our Creator as believers and how we are to pray for our brothers and sisters who are in sin.
Let’s look at 1 John 5:13-21;
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of Elohim [Yeshua], so that you may know that you have eternal life. [This is a confidence we can have when we believe; and John stated earlier in chapter 2 of this letter that the one who belongs to Yeshua will keep the commandments. What commandments is He talking about? The only ones they had…those from the Torah. They are eternal and everlasting.]
14 This is the confidence which we have before Him [Yeshua], that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death [Key is a sin not leading to death…the Torah defines those sins], he shall ask and Elohim will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. [This is a powerful concept!!! When we see a brother or sister committing a sin not leading to death, we can pray for them in the name of Yeshua and He will be given life. Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary says, “Life was in the process of being forfeited by the sinning brother when the believer’s intercession obtained its restoration.” This is an awesome responsibility and privilege we have to spare someone from continuing down a wrong road. However, if one has committed a sin leading to death, this, John basically says, leave alone for our Heavenly Father to deal with. In the context of 1 John it seems pretty clear that the sin leading to death is the one who has walked away and denied that Yeshua is the Messiah. This does lead to death in the eternal sense should they not repent of their apostasy.]
17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.
18 We know that no one who is born of Elohim sins [the ESV makes this more clear: “We know that everyone who has been born of Elohim does not keep on sinning…”]; but He who was born of Elohim keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.
19 We know that we are of Elohim, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. [In the power of the evil one is referring to unbelievers as verse 4-5 of this chapter says, “4 For whatever is born of Elohim overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Yeshua is the Son of Elohim?” Therefore, those who have not overcome the world is the one who has not yet received Yeshua as the Messiah and His way of life, they are still under the power of Satan.]
20 And we know that the Son of Elohim [Yeshua] has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His [YHVH’s] Son Yeshua Messiah. This is the true Elohim and eternal life.
21 Little children, guard yourselves from idols.” [Don’t mix your worship!!]
May we understand on a deeper level today just how valuable our relationship is when we are in Messiah! May we understand that He hears us when we pray! And May we understand that when we see our brothers or sisters committing sins not leading to death, we can intercede for them and He will grant us our request!!
Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
