Wisdom

Since the garden man continues to battle the desire to usurp the wisdom of Elohim by following the serpent’s lie that we can become like Elohim through eating the forbidden fruit. Humanism, rather than wisdom from above, is an enemy to our souls.  It is so vital that we are careful to follow the words of Scripture and not pervert them to fit our thoughts or desires.  The wisdom of this world will be banished and so will those who follow it rather than following the true wisdom given in the Word.  Today we will look at a few verses that speak to this issue.

1 Corinthians 1:18-31 says, “18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of Elohim. 19 For it is written, “I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE.” [Paul, at the beginning of his letter, is quoting to this congregation from Isaiah 29:14 that we have below] 20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not Elohim made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of Elohim the world through its wisdom did not come to know Elohim, Elohim was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; 23 but we preach Messiah crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, 24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Messiah the power of Elohim and the wisdom of Elohim. 25 Because the foolishness of Elohim is wiser than men, and the weakness of Elohim is stronger than men. [Paul is using irony to make his point] 26 For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; 27 but Elohim has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and Elohim has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, 28 and the base things of the world and the despised Elohim has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, 29 so that no man may boast before Elohim. 30 But by His doing you are in Messiah Yeshua, who became to us wisdom from Elohim, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, 31 so that, just as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Master.”

Proverbs 21:30 says, “There is no wisdom and no understanding and no counsel against YHVH.” Nothing man can offer can compare to His wisdomunderstanding and counsel.

Isaiah 29:13-14 says, “13 Then YHVH said, “Because this people draw near with their words and honor Me with their lip service, but they remove their hearts far from Me, and their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote, [Going through the motions and knowing what to say, but are not sincere in their hearts.  It’s an outward appearance but not an inward reality.]  14 Therefore behold, I will once again deal marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous; and the wisdom of their wise men will perish, and the discernment of their discerning men will be concealed.”

Jeremiah 8:8-9 says, “8 “How can you say, ‘We are wise, and the law of YHVH is with us’? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes has made it into a lie. 9 “The wise men are put to shame, they are dismayed and caught; behold, they have rejected the word of YHVH, and what kind of wisdom do they have?” As we often say, we must be careful that we do not redefine the meaning of Yah’s commandments to fit what is convenient for us, for in type this is rejecting the actual Word of YHVH.  Functioning within the Seven Spirits of YHVH, wisdom, understanding, counsel, Spirit of YHVH, power, knowledge and fear of Him, will provide us with everything we need to stay on course.

May we continually say NO to the wisdom of this world and persistently pursue the Wisdom of YHVH through His Word and obedience to it!!

Have a blessed and shalom filled day!!
